Data is only valuable when it is readily accessible and easily converted into information. Too many companies have vast stores of data – locked away where no one can get to it – with the exception of a few “data gurus”.  These individuals are typically so busy satisfying the information appetites of the powers-that-be, they rarely have the time to help others along the path to data selfsufficiency. So, the talent of unlocking data remains vested in the hands of a few power users when it could be distributed to the mass of users who desperately need accurate, timely information. Only time, money, and persistence will fix this – along with a corps of dedicated leaders who understand the true power of data in the hands of the company’s real decision makers. Knowledge is power. Data is knowledge.
