The results of the annual InformationWeek 500 survey were announced this week. Two Teradata rail customers made the list – one in the top 250. Questions in the survey cover a broad range of IT topics including use of web technologies, CIO engagement, and business intelligence. Transportation and logistics companies tend to fall in the mid-range of adoption of BI technologies. For example 46% of Transportation & Logistics firms surveyed indicated they would deliver better business intelligence to more employees more quickly in 2008. Fifty-eight percent (58%) said deployment of BI tools was one of the most effective steps taken in the past 12 months to raise employee productivity. These firms indicated that IT spending as a percent of revenue has remained constant over the last 6 years at approximately 2%, although 23% said they will spend less on IT in 2008 than in 2007. Clearly the climate in the Transportation and Logistics sector continues to be amenable to technologies driving productivity and revenue gains. Our task is to clearly and succiectly demonstrate Teradata’s role in delivering those gains. In these days of fierce competition, increasing time constraints, and higher financial hurdles, the spoils will go to those who efficiently and effectively prove their value.
