Three of the four “big” Class I railroads are Teradata customers – Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Over the many years they have been using our EDW, they have been graduating adding subject areas until they all have well established and robust EDWs by anyone standards. So the challenge becomes – if they are already doing well what we do best – how do we help them? The answer lies is not taking the growth of the data warehouse at face value.  Accumulated data is not necessarily integrated data. OK, yes, it resides in the same place and, we hope, provides a single version of the truth. But, if users continued to USE that data in the siloed fashion to which they were accustomed in their data marts – either through lack of technical skill or because they have not been re-educated on the expanded and truly integrated view of the world available – effectively they are just using a highpowered data mart. Educating users on the real power of integrated data by helping them think about the new questions they can ask is the key continued account growth and development – and how we continue to add real value for our customers.
